Congrats! You made it through 2020 and this point, halfway through the first month of the new year. Which also means you have made it through a coup, President-Elect Joe Biden, winning the Election. I think the 10th time, weird celebrity news, and so much more. Let us forget about all that for now. What I wanted to talk about today is some New Year’s resolutions or some New Year’s goals.
January 1st, the start of the “new you.” Come February 1st they are long forgotten. People tend to push themselves a little too hard once the new year comes with intense workout regimes, extreme diets, and overall higher standards for themselves. It all becomes too much too fast and creates more stress than needed. We become overstimulated, therefore telling ourselves we’ll try again next year.
But you can change that. Here are some tips and tricks that I have created that have helped me stick to my goals and make changes enjoyable. Hopefully, these will help you too.
1.) Start Slow.
Change takes time, work it will not happen overnight. Instead of piling on goal after goal, try starting with one. If you find yourself successful with one and feel capable of another, then add another one of your goals and so forth. Starting slow is going to help with feeling overwhelmed and will help create stability in your routine. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.
2.) Celebrate the little things.
Make sure your progress does not go unnoticed. We tend to focus on the end rather than the journey when the end seems so far away we feel ourselves give up. We feel as though it is not worth it. Be proud of yourself for even just the smallest of work you have put in. You are your own biggest fan.
3.) Keep track of your goals.
It is so easy for us to lose track of our progress if we are not paying attention. One of the easiest ways to keep ourselves accountable is to write it down. My recommendation is to get a notebook from the store and gather inspiration from Pinterest. You can design it and keep track of your progress however you want. It makes it fun and allows you to look back to where you first started and to see the development you have made.
4.) Reward Yourself.
We reserve the right to treat ourselves for the achievements we make. Without a reward from time to time, it can become harder to stick to the goals we have created. It can be anything you want!
5.) Have Fun with it.
Do not make your goals feel like a chore. Once they start to feel like a burden, modify, or even get rid of it.
This is just a shortlist of some simple tips and tricks to help you with your New Year’s Resolutions and goals. I wish you luck on your journey of 2021. I can only hope that it is just a smidge better than 2020.
